Here's some interesting info on Syquest and Iomega

Just called CDW (mail order house)

Asked about Sparq (They have it advertised on front page of catalog)

They don't have any in stock.

They have 100 internals due in today.
They have 150 externals due on December 24.
These are both initial shipments.

They have a total of 3900 of each on order.

Jeez, that's Syquest's total expected shipments for the quarter.

When I asked about Zips, he said they were their BIGGEST selling item.

However, he tried to steer me to Syquest, saying that Iomega uses floppy disk technology and Syquest uses hard disc technology.

I asked him what I would do if I wanted to change discs with friends, and then he admitted that this is a major drawback to Syquest stuff.

One more thing: Sparq is advertised for $199; Syjet for $299.

Since Syjet has 50% more capacity, and also gives you 2 discs (one is mail in offer) for free and Sparq doesn't give you any discs (it explicitly says "media sold separately"), why would you buy Sparq?

Just food for thought.

If they don't get their product out there soon, they'll be out of business before they start. They're obviously going to miss the Christmas season as it is.
