This is the 5S/5C miscalculation all over again. Apple must have learned the wrong lesson from last year-- instead of concluding that most buyers are attracted to the $650 price point, they should have learned that most buyers will gravitate to whatever is the more expensive phone :) It's a great problem to have.

I maintain that the 6+ is ridiculously big.

The interest in the iPhone 6 Plus on-line and among early adopters has been even stronger than I expected. I am sure though that there are large number of non-techies that will be upgrading from the 5 that will agree with you.

I think the key to the 6 Plus is that you cant think of it as a smartphone. It is a microtablet that just happens to also have a phone function.

One interesting comment from a 6 Plus owner is that he could now see himself buying the Watch. He likes the 6 Plus but getting it out to check messages has become much more onerous.

I think Apple should have priced their new big phone at $1000. People who believe "you get what you pay for" would be thrilled! If the lines and pre-orders were below expectations, they could just drop the price by stages until the expectations were on target.

I'd respectfully disagree with you there

I don't think people are gravitating towards the most expensive phone. I think it's buyers who wanted to buy a jumbo iPhone, but none was previously available. Whether they were android users or reluctant small iPhone users. People who were previously compromising what they really wanted, now having it available.

We all knew people were deferring their normal replacements in favor of a LARGER iPhone, not necessarily the NEW iPhone.
