I've been trying to dig up prelim sales for Quake II and Heavy Gear. No luck so far. Anyone out there have some news on sales, personal observation or otherwise? Heavy Gear made a strong debut...hopefully it doesn't meet the same fate as Dark Reign. I would NOT want to see ATVI and MPRS get together. MPRS scared off GTIS and investors and I don't want to see the same thing happen to ATVI. Either ATVI does it alone and buys up small production houses, or they search for a suitor. A lot of the best technology comes from these little companies anyway. MPRS has way too much baggage (though has some nice titles). Bringing Mechwarrior back into the fold might seem like a good thing to some, but I believe Heavy Gear has a lot more to offer. For those who have played the game, face it...you can do a lot of amazing things in the game that you couldn't do before in MW2. ATVI should focus on putting out a solid Heavy Gear product and not dilute their resources or focus on trying to take over the entire mech genre. Focus on the customer, beta test the hell out of each product they ship and grow the Activision name as a quality publisher/developer. This fiasco with Heavy Gear did more to hurt ATVI's reputation than getting the game out early (even though I had only a few minor problems...it's a great game IMO). IMO, I think alot of those negative posts were from die-hard Battletech fans/MPRS/Earthsiege groupies who want ATVI/Heavy Gear to fail, but that's just my two cents. Anyway, watching ATVI plunge today was no fun, but I think once the Quake II numbers come out, we'll see a rebound. Tom C.
