In fact, the timeline suggests that would have been impossible. Recall Jovin was seen slightly before 9:30pm on the Yale campus near Phelps Gate (.6 miles from Ingalls Rink). The hockey game was nearly over by then. In fact, Vanity Fair said the last person who reportedly saw Jovin alive (right outside Phelps Gate where Jovin was walking north on College St) was walking back from the hockey game. Jovin was in possession of a Fresca bottle when found, sold only at Krauszer's (not the hockey game), which was near her apartment in the opposite direction of the hockey game. The woman who witnessed the running man was taken by the NHPD multiple times to see Van de Velde in person to ID him as the guy she saw running. Despite almost being ordered to ID him, she adamantly refused, saying instead it absolutely was not him. And that's why it took a decade for this crucial piece of evidence to be unburied by the NHPD! On the contrary, Billy's former employer said the sketch was a dead ringer for Billy. Further, as you have seen from photos of Billy, his favorite jacket at the time was "loose fitting" and "greenish", which the witness said the running man was wearing. I contend the jacket is more incriminating than the sketch. And what are the odds both match the same guy-- a guy who was so certain the police were about to arrest him for Jovin's murder that he committed suicide? And Billy was a former very competitive runner and gaunt back then, just like the image. And he spoke fluent German, just like Jovin. And so on... - Jeff
