I think we'll still have cycles, so the opportunity to make a lot of extra money is still there. See LRCX chart below and I CONTINUE TO BELIEVE, despite what Cary use to tell us in 1998 and 1999 when I made my case here for Lam, is still the best company in the group due to so many etch steps compared to ALL OTHERS to make most chips.
Isn't it wonderful that semi IC's have matured past the old bust / boom days of the PC cycle?!
LRCX hit $80 today for the first time ever. I still have a block of shares in my taxable (diversify from HP company stock) account with a cost basis of $1025 that I bought in 1998 that are worth $24K today! I believe I bought about $5K total in 1998 when it was trying to bottom... a lot of money for me at the time.

I've done well trading the volatility around a core position but I know some of what I bought with profits didn't do 23x so I wonder if I'd just bought and held on for the ride...

The charts are designed to keep as many away as possible... you'd think it would have hit my support line at $65 but some stepped in and reversed it during the last correction. Maybe it will correct again and test the 200DMA when it gets to that support line... but I'd not count on it....
