Alok,

My post was just FIRST CALL EARNINGS ESTIMATES, not actual earnings. They will be released after the close on Thursday.

Cabletron cuts 600 jibs...

COMS have too many people (13,500). Any news of layoff at COMS?

COMS was to retire or no new development for AB4000, AB5000, AB8000 & ,NB2 & some USR LAN hub products (as per last conferance call ?).

Some layoffs will certainly help this stock.

Very interesting and unsettling 3Com scene at Internet World last week. All the other networkers (even ASND) were very visible and upbeat. COMS, on the otber hand, had a tiny booth tucked behind BAY, manned by two cranky goons.
They said the 56K standards meetings reported in the last few weeks were crap and hype. They said no standard anytime soon, tried to push their Total Control Concentrator.
I asked how many orders they had booked at the show (even though it's not considered an order-writing show like COMDEX) and they said they couldn't talk about it. ASND and CSCO salespeople were fairly open about their projections coming in and how close they were.
Didn't make me feel great as a long term investor (although they did show me artist's renderings of the new 3Com park in S.F. which looks pretty snazzy).
