I'm an attorney, as you know. I thought it was an incredibly bad case for a prosecutor. IMO there really wasn't probable cause to indict. The jury came to the correct decision, I think, despite the pressure on them. I'm sure they knew all those people in Ferguson would riot if they didn't get what they wanted (might have rioted even if they did.) And again, I'm not saying there aren't many abuses out there, I'm not even saying the officer couldn't have handled this differently- clearly he could have- but that's NOT the legal standard at play. The grand jury making the wrong decision in this case, and finding probable cause where none existed- wouldn't really do anything to address the problems in our society. Then you'd have a trail, and people would get there hopes up and we'd waste a lot of money, and the officer would be exonerated and you'd get the same riots. Maybe even bigger riots. So this was probably the best way to go.

I think there's a huge pushback against police abuse of powers coming from all quarters. The right and the left, blacks, latinos and whites. We've let police literally get away with murder, as long as they protect us. That has to end. (I'm not saying that's what happened in Ferguson) Everyone knows to start recording video on your phone when you see police abusing their powers. That's both feeding this movement, because it's so common, and ending the abuse.
