There will be no collaboration. The two sides have little in common, and no real reason to collaborate (and in fact, their bases do not want them to collaborate- since both sides get killed when they deal with "the enemy")

The polls may occasionally show that the "people" (whoever they are) want congress to end the gridlock- but the "people" don't really mean that. If they did, they'd elect different sorts of representatives. The people (left and right) want their handouts and pork (their bread and circuses)- and they really don't care about anything else. So we in the US get the government the majority in the US deserve.

I want to join the misanthropist party.

Finally, the collaborative leader would exile those who consistently refuse to play by the rules.
But, how can Obama exile congress? 'Splain that to me, David Brooks.
