Paul,

<In Q2/Q3 98, Intel's transition to Pentium II will be very far along and earnings will begin to pick up>

This time frame should also coincide with pre Windows 98 hype. I expect that the tech's will rally in general as we approach the release of Windows 98. In addition, by then WS will be looking forward towards 1999 and Merced.

The real problem facing Intel and depressing the stock price is
the sub $1000 pc problem. Reports have Intel as very concerned
about the impact of the low priced pc market on Intel sales
and profits. The reality is Intel faces a lower than expected
fourth quarter when results are reported in January, and the
estimates for 1998 just keep coming down down down every day.
It now appears possible that Intel will record declining profits
in 1998 and could see per share earnings of only $3.50 next year
which means the stock is still overpriced at twenty times
declining earnings! This p/e multiple is absurd for a company
that has traded at must lower multiples (along with other stocks)
during recent years. Intel shareholders are in for more misery.

Paul, I hope you are right. I think the Pentium II is selling well and Intc will meet estimates. Estimates are the same as last qtr, right? The Sub 1,000 PC was out last qtr, but it was only in this qtr that Intel was effectively dealing with it. (IMO) Dale
