Actually, I don't know the answer. I assume it was stolen.

Criminals like that guy rarely get guns legally.

The thing is, he really knew the answer. In most states there is nothing stopping a gun owner from selling a gun to anyone who has the asking price. Unless the gun owner happens to be a registered gun dealer, that is. So it is pretty moronic to ask if the gun was legally acquired because unless it was acquired by the perp from a registered gun owner there is no way to know.

Bill knows that. He just wanted to play another round of "gotcha!"...

And sadly, he probably thinks he's being clever.

It's illegal for a felon to own a firearm in the US ... so even if Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley got his gun from a private sale by a legal owner, it was illegal for him to buy it. Or even accept it as a gift.

Police say Brinsley used a semiautomatic Taurus handgun, bought in 1996 at a pawn shop in Atlanta by someone else, to kill the two officers before turning the gun on himself. Authorities don’t yet know how the gun got into Brinsley’s hands. But federal law prohibits gun sales to convicted felons. Brinsley would have been barred from legally purchasing a firearm since he had already served two years in prison for firing a stolen gun in Georgia .......... gunproplus.com

Hahaha... Brumar just schooled you so I don't have to. In addition to everything else, you don't know anything about gun laws.
Your ignorance is manifest.
