That's the real picture of what has happened, not what's happening. Note that the relentless cutting of personnel expenses, by corporations, began when Bush took office. Coincidence, or not.

The question is, how do you get the money from the top line of your graph to the bottom line of your graph? You could use tax policy, but the only proposals I see are to cut or eliminate corporate taxes. Nothing that hints at redistribution is going to get through the Republican Congress, they like the current distribution very much, thank you. Or raising the minimum wage to $15-$20 an hour. Think that will fly with the Republicans?

I think the next "big surprise" may be deflation. Europe first, then the U.S. That'd really upend the apple cart.
