Konigsberg was a symbol of the Teutonic Order, and the NAZI regime transformed it into a symbolic naval base and fortress. Mindless allies gave in into the Russians for same reason Russia declared Crimea as their territory earlier this year. No other justification. From a pure neutral historical point of view the so called allies with the unbridled arrogance of the English and French generated since WWI the mess we need to cope with today if in E. Europe or ME and Asia. Whole ethnic groups where oppressed power was given to the well connected oppressors and most un-understandable they caved in to Russia a fact that is hard to believe as to the cruelty and mass murders of Stalin that followed WWII. As an example big part of Romania where snatched by Russia without any good reasons. Bessarabia and Bukovina, similar situations with Hungary Poland and Austria or Azerbaijan and Armenia not to mention disappearance (denial of statehood) of whole nations in the ME
