My impression it was all about the price.......as well as small things......like sitting two adults in the back seat uncomfortably; touch screens instead of buttons etc. Haven't driven either so can't really comment.


Yes, price is a critical issue, but the key is electric range. People struggle to make the economics work...it's an awful lot of hardware to get to a hybrid mileage of 35mpg after the batteries are spent. There are lots of cheaper cars out there that can do that and better.

Gen 2 is better on both range and hybrid economy...GM has to make a better economic argument to get the Volt past being a neat piece of technology with niche appeal....the Leaf is useless after the batteries are spent...so it's really a commuter/city/second car. It's a little cheaper and clearly simpler in technology so the sales pitch is also simpler....but it too is a niche car that will struggle to achieve mass appeal like, say, a Prius.
