Depends how many images you store on the drive. I keep 3 images of my computer. That takes up a lot of room fast. Try it with a 1 TB drive, I am into 2TB ones now.

You should by two external drives and rotate them. If you don't think they will fail, Google external drive not working. Google is full of people who only had one external hard drive and trusted it with their data only to have it fail and wonder about data recovery.
