Here's a bit of additional unintended info re Macrium rescue disk. I downloaded the newer version of Easeus and when it asked for a reboot a blue screen came up on the computer. I accidentally forgot to remove the Macrium rescue disk from the CD drive and it responded by booting from the disk. A puzzling few minutes, but at least I know the rescue disk works.

Rap, when you have booted from the Macrium rescue disk, please tell us how it went. Mine is WinPE and the Win8.1 machine boots ok from it every time [there is a prompt to hit any key to boot from CD]. Yes, no file or folder backup from the free edition.

I have also deleted my free WD Acronis, but kept the free EaseUS.

PS: we can always AskLeo if we have Macrium questions because he endorses it
