Inode, I'm amazed at how the "non-partisan" CBO has become a blatantly partisan tool. I can write a bill that pays for the growing of money trees. Then I can use the CBO to project that this will reduce the deficit because 10 years from now, we can harvest $100 bills to make up for the cost. Bottom line is that the CBO has to make projections based on assumptions given to them by the lawmakers. And the lawmakers have every motivation to give false, overly optimistic assumptions. It's a real conflict of interest that would NEVER fly in the private sector, and in fact, would draw attention from regulators like the SEC. But when it comes to big government, it's all OK as long as it's "your side" that is winning. Tenchusatsu
