Do you remember when some questioned me when I said we all pay to give free cell phones to poor people?

I recently converted my Family plan to two Galaxy S5 phones with unlimited text, data and voice for $100 plus taxes and fees.

Going through the bills, I see each line at $50 has

T-Mobile fees and charges & Government taxes and fees

T-MOBILE FEES AND CHARGES
Federal Universal Service Fund $1.14
Regulatory Fee $0.07
Regulatory Programs Fee $1.6
Charge Details

Regulatory Programs Fee $1.61
A fee collected and retained by T-Mobile to help cover our costs related to funding and complying with government mandates, programs and obligations.
GOVERNMENT TAXES AND FEES
CA Advanced Services Fund $0.19
CA Relay Service and Communications Device Fund $0.08
California High Cost Fund - A (CHCF-A) $0.13
California Teleconnect Fund $0.37
Emergency Telephone Users Surcharge Tax (911) $0.39
Universal Lifeline Telephone Service Surcharge $0.95
Utility Use $1.74
Subtotal:$6.67

Only one discount per household for each residential address is allowed. Each household must choose to get the discount either on a home phone or on a cell phone, but not on both. Households cannot get the discount from multiple phone companies. Households that do not follow the one discount per household rule will lose their discounts.
You have to wonder if they check to see if people comply... the penalty for lying and collecting more than one phone per household is pretty minimal...

several of the plans give free phones and very reasonable, 3.3¢ per minute rates over the min.

How is the weather? Hope your mother is well. I wonder how long she'll want to stay in the cold rather than join you in Texas....
