I would like to agree, but ISIS is asserting itself outside of the Middle Eastern boundaries, and that's unacceptable to the Western world as we know it.

As for Obama, I don't think he'll be motivated to the total annihilation of ISIS even if they finally attacked America. The moves he's been making as of late suggest that he wants to make nice with the Middle East at any cost, even the short-term and mid-term security of the American homeland. This is because he believes that in the long term, the key to peace in the Middle East is them liking us.

Which isn't going to happen, period.

It is unclear to me what causes ISIS to stop if not a serious, forceful effort by the US. Others can do it but I'm not sure there exists the will.

For the most part, he's right.

I am not sure what you mean. They look firmly entrenched in the ME to me....and no where else.

He isn't trying to make nice with the ME. He's trying to keep the US from getting embroiled in another war we can't win.
