>>>The success of Cisco vs Ascend is clearly reflected in the stock price.<<<

I believe CSCO's dominance and enormous market cap. represents its success. ASND's share price is a reflection of the near-sighted fickleness of a market who's had far too many years of triple-digit growth from almost any one of the networkers, sector-wide.

How CSCO vs ASND plays out has yet to be seen. The real contest is 1998 in RA. There has already begun in Q4 the start of a price-war for marketshare between the two companies. In fact, there is speculation by analysts that this may adversely impact COMS who has until now, benefitted from strong sales in low-end RAS, but now that ASND and CSCO are aggressively slashing prices, COMS' low-end gear is not so low-end anymore...now with little of a premium, customers can opt for the higher end gear from ASND and CSCO. So the war is just beginning. By the end of Q2/98 we should begin to see clearly who has the upperhand.

>>>I'm curious are you and engineer? Or is your backround in business?<<<

Neither...I'm just a trader/investor. I tend to think you have to know a little of both to be successful, though.
