The transition I'm talking about is getting the Market to see the urgency to buy the Pentium II and not settle for a lower grade pentium at a reduced price.

The urgency to convert to P-II has more to do proprietory nature of Slot 1 than anything else. The "lower grade" Pentium 233 will outperform cacheless P-II.

Isn't that why Intel has made aggressive price cuts?

Price cuts happened in order to deny any profit to AMD and Cyrix and to maintain market share.

Rarebird - Re: " Isn't that why Intel has made aggressive price cuts?"

Intel has cut the price agressively BECAUSE THERE IS NO immediate urgency to buy the Pentium II for most (but not all) applications.

If it was "urgent" to buy Pentium IIs, there would be little need for price cutting.
