IBM may get this into production next year, but they have been working on it for over 10 years - back when they were heavily into bipolar ECL circuits.

TI and Motorola and Sematech have all announced major strides - but I wouldn't bet my farm on it for the next generation CPU.

And there are alternative approaches to reducing RESISTANCE of metal interconnects. One method is to increase the THICKNESS of existing aluminum-based metal films and etch high aspect-ratio conductors - resulting in a reduction in overall resistance. This, coupled with lower dielectric constant insulators will get you to the same place with a lot less jeopardy.
