Reginald,

Read the 2 letters and yes, you have to give MSFT high marks for cleverness ... unfortunately, that's not the real issue. Let's say MSFT is right and you can't really, really remove IE (i.e not just get rid of the icon and means of access to IE) without ending up with an OS that doesn't work. MSFT's attitude appears to be that this is the DOJ's problem ... and it is in a very narrow sense. But step back and look at the whole forest ... MSFT is in effect saying hey we went ahead and really, really integrated IE with Windows. Well, this is what the whole thrust of the anti-trust action is about. If DOJ prevails, then they are really, really going to have to take it out ... and if it's as difficult as they say then we're looking at Win/99 or Win/00, not Win98.

What gets me is MSFT's whole attitude ... I mean they might win a few points for legal cleverness but they're losing big time in the court of public opinion. They just don't get it ... this attitude will embolden everyone in the known universe to file anti-trust actions agin 'em.

Where did you get the correspondence? Oh I see the reference in your letter. I didn't know that MSFT had such a page - why I don't know. I guess I have taken my MSFT position for granted all these years and never did much looking into the corporate innards. I am thankful to see that such high priced legal talent came to the same conclusion that such lowly folks as myself came to just using common sense.
