Well Sam, we are in more agreement than I thought. You admit those cable modems will be connected to cable company lines. So the argument become why people use AOL---Is it the "superb" content at slow and unreliable speeds or is it the fact that they have been inundated with AOL disks and think it is the simplest way to get online. I say it is the latter. With every cable company in the country advertising "plug this line in and get fast internet access" on local televion (like MediaOne already does in my area), it is not hard to imagine that many existing AOL consumers who have realized that AOL does not own the web, will switch over. BTW, are you not familiar with the recent Time Warner, US West Media joint venture? Probably not. The point is that AOL is an access provider and a very poor one. I have said all along that if they ever develop decent content, they may get to be a successful premium "channel" on the web. So far, they have not proven that they can. >Now, I'm sure cable will have their own little splash screen with links to go there and here. So, when you sign up for cable access that is what you get - faster access. You think those "tech savvy" guys and girls are drooling over the stupid content of a cable co provider splash page!!! It's all about BANDWITH Tim. Let me try and make it clear. You get a cable modem installed, your connected by xyz cable co, you can surf the net...and you can log onto AOL at a faster speed. xyz cable co could care less where the hell you surf - they just want that $40 a month. I'm sure down the road the cable co's will be trying to generate ad streams on their splash pages...but for those "tech savvy" consumers, it ain't about that...<
