Joe:"Being paid or not being paid does not affect the independance of an auditor they can still render their opinion. Not being paid may however make them mad and cause them to withold their opinion until paid." Joe the accounting firm, Grant Thornton, is the source regarding the legal ability of an accounting firm to express an opinion of any sort while not having been paid. The reason for it is because since they are owed money, they cannot be considered independent and impartial. What is your source?
