Freedom FROM religion, is that it Wharfie? Yep. A democracy cannot operate any other way. In a non-secular environment, there is always the struggle of which religion or sect gets to call the shots. And that means that issues that are religion-tinged pushes out others, no matter how important. Oh, if everyone was of the same religion or sect, this wouldn't be a problem. Small town America, for example. But you can't run a modern, industrialized country that way.
