If it hadn't been for Gorbachev the Soviet Union would NOT have broken up. Reagan had nothing to do with it. If Putin had been in power when Reagan was president there never would have been a break up of the Soviet Union. I think it is a disingenuous claim. We had this Cold War that no one projected any end to. Reagan comes along and says, before the fact, "I can end this thing." And then he sets about to make it happen, and lo and behold, he ends the Cold War and brings the USSR to its knees. Then, liberals say, "Reagan didn't do it." Bullshit. The guy said he would do it, he did it, and it is just politics to try to argue otherwise after the fact.
