This guy very credibly (and correctly, imo) argues that drug addiction isn't a choice and his argument, imo, is extremely compelling (and worth watching if you have the time, even if not of particular interest to you):

Yet most of the world believes it is just bad behavior.

There are likely lots of behaviors that have genetic or "nature vs. nurture" considerations, but the reality is that until we can prove any of them, I think it is a mistake to blame it on "bad genes". Even though I believe what the guy in the video says, I don't think his theory is proved as of yet. Our legal system sure doesn't believe it.
