jhild, the 50-day moving average for the DOW is right where it is
now sitting. A down opening should lead to a sell off. I am looking
at a current 200-day MA at 7510. Convincingly down through this
line means a bear market to me. If we turn upwards at 7600 then
to me we have a very bullish inverted head-and-shoulders pattern.
The best thing that can happen is for the market to fall apart.
That is, we have distress but we need capitulation.

ya, but the futures are not locked down with the limits. that says to me that the u.s. market will not dive at the open. also, the 900 point drop in nikkei is not coherent with the drops in other asian markets. part of the drop is associated with the dow's 100 point drop today. i don't know the exact link but i check out the cme site for the globex futures.
