Gersh asked: So what is the correct way to say "Officer, would you please obey the law?"

On the spot, that would be an extremely foolish thing to say. Do not ask questions. An encounter with the police is not a negotiating session and not when to tell the officer that he is disobeying the law.

This is the biggest lesson you are missing, Gersh. Even if you are 100% in the right when the officer stops you, emotions are running high on both sides. You should stand down, because you WILL lose the argument.

Take the ticket, go home, relax, calm down, sort it all out, and document the facts in the case from your perspective. Consult with your attorney and let him give you counsel on how to proceed.
