As long as they make ORCL, IBM, NSCP SUNW and INTC do the EXACT same. But then you will notice a marked decrease in innoavtion, for intellectual property would be wroth considerably less since it can never truly be owned as a competitive advantage. Why should I spend my money and resources to innovate just to supply my competitors with an advantage. It is easier for MSFT to sit back and let IBM or Sun spend the money, then ride on thier coat tails.
That, in my opinion, is anti-capitalistic, and actually smacks of a socialistic bent.
