No, I'm referring to the politicians that looked to the Soviet Union for assistance against their domestic opponents ... namely, Carter and Ted Kennedy. So you REALLY believe that Reagan just TALKED Gorbachev into breaking up the Soviet Union? No, though he did verbally challenge the Soviet Union an evil empire and call on Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." But he also built up American defense spending particularly on new weapons systems and the Soviets knew they couldn't keep up.
