Religion IS a problem.

Nope. Religious fanaticism is a problem. Particularly religious fanaticism that considers the "other" to be less human. Which can, of course, apply to bigotry in general.

As for European immigration, much of that is a cultural issue, long standing; bigotry from the native population; and fanaticism among some population elements--France is a good case in which there are fanatics on both sides.
