Gene,
Re -- Also, more than 50% of their shipments are into homes!..

Since CPQ says that 15-20% of their sales are retail, are you aware of any other channel for them selling PC's into homes?

Furthermore, CPQ's numbers makes much more sense, and comes from the horses mouth (a reputable at that CPQ can be sued if wrong info). Its unclear from your post where you got your CPQ break down of 1.6 mil units...

Gene - Re: "(Numbers derived by me from IDC reports). "

Call Compaq and get the REAL numbers.

Sub $1,000 PCs were in the "single digits" of Compaq's sales. I got that number directly from Compaq's I.R. department.

Cyrix shipped 400,000 MediaGX devices in Q3 (not too sure about Q4 since they are now part of NSM).

Since Compaq represents only a fraction of Cyrix's MediaGX sales, clearly Compaq is selling a lot less than 400,000 Cyrix machines - at least in Q3.
