Paul Engel, Re: Sub $1000 PCs were in the "single digits"
I agreed that "revenues" were probably in single digits. But I'm talking about percentage of "units" sold. I feel Compaq will sell approx 1 Mil sub-zero "units" in 2H, or about 16% of total "units".
Even if Compaq sells only 500,000 Cyrix machines in 2H, they have also sold a lot of sub-zero P54/55 166/200 mHz machines. Both into the home and into SOHO and biz markets. This is still consistent with what Compaq IR told you, since they were talking about sales and not units. (Correct me if I'm wrong). I think the key here is that sub-zero's are beginning to represent a significant total of units sold, and growing.
My source of units sold is from IDC. Click on "Strong demand for Q4..." at this site.

Paul,

Since Compaq represents only a fraction of Cyrix's MediaGX sales, clearly Compaq is selling a lot less than 400,000 Cyrix machines - at least in Q3.

I seem to recall from the latest NSM conference call that in last quarter, MediaGX sales to Compaq became less than 50% of the total. So in the 3rd quarter, Compaq sold at least 200,000 MediaGX computers, my guess for the 4th quarter shipments to Compaq is 300,000, half a million for 2H 98. I think Compaq sold more Intel CPU based sub-$1,000 computers in 2H 98.

There is another category that people seem to overlook, and that is sub-1K computers sold to business. Just refer Compaq thread and steve's post specifically. These PCs are for now Intel only.
