Unlike the politicians who wish to keep the secrets? <Most of the media, from what we can see, are intellectually corrupt, biased hacks. > I feel no threat from media but a lot of threat from megalomaniacs in power in government. Shining a light on cockroaches is a good idea. If they have nothing to hide they have nothing to fear from publicity. Why would Clapper feel the need to lie to Congress? Lois Lerner was acting in the public interest? They are supposed to be working for you.

Here is an article about New Zealand's GCSB spy agency. nzherald.co.nz It's very amusing when thinking back over their history.

Perhaps the USA spysters have more SuperHero status than Keystone Klutz standard, though the military intelligence which leads to decisions such as "Let's get them WMDs. Yeeehahh. This will be a cake-walk" suggests not. But I bet they are very good at harassing and harming individuals who have different political points of view.

I was a 12 year old boy once. I think the love of secrets is due to children who missed some developmental milestones and are fixated at an early age while physically looking grown up. We had our secret clubs [for a short time]. Messages written with lemon juice. The Secret Seven was an Enid Blyton series for children.
