The purchase of DCOM technology was a huge mistake and the wounds are still fresh from that one. It's as if Del has put out all the fires only to walk back in with a flame thrower. The planned acquisition is absolutely the right thing to do but you are absolutely right about the price being way, way, too high. Java will be the lingua franca of software development going forward and the adoption of RMI and CORBA should put a bullet in the brain of Microsoft's COM.

BORL should read this carefully and explain how it is they justify paying so much for an implementation of an open standard which in all likelihood will be a built-in feature of every Java platform.
