<Then they create their own proprietary product that does the same thing, but with proprietary APIs.>

This is how MS controls the ISV. Why in the world would they release it to the public. They release just enough to keep the ISV developing half decent code. Reg can say they have the best programs but there is one catch they have all the code for the OS and the competitors only have parts of it. Another tactic that they use is to withhold upgrade info if they don't do everything MS says. MS is paranoid and a CONTROL freak. They get away with this type of behaviour because of the monopoly they presently enjoy. One day they will lose it and when this happens I think we will really get some inovations in the consumer computer industry. As far as i'm concerned the home computer is a disaster for the average consumer that isn't a computer geek. People keeps saying how complicated UNIX is but as far as i'm concerned for the average Joe, Windows is no better if it had the same power as UNIX but since it's weaker it appears easier.

The NC has all the right concepts for a consumer computer. MS knows this they have the WebTV. This product has major potential in the future for a consumer computer product.

Ever notice how MS is not promoting it. If the consumers don't buy a Windows computer they can't lock them into this crazy upgrade cycle and milk them dry of their hard earned dollars as they have done in the past. Once the technology gets up to speed I see no reason to be running Windows and MS knows this.

Funny thing is that Java was International Standards Organization (ISO) approved and only a few countries voted against it. Guess which one. U.S.A. I'm a very suspicious guy and I came to the conclusion that MS was behind this but they couldn't control the rest of the world. Now i'm hoping that they can't control the DOJ and it's looking pretty good so far.
