you can thank Bush locogrinBLOW and longnSHORT wiener
Gay marriage would not have come about so quickly without the assistance of George Bush. He didn’t mean to do it, of course. Bush had that peculiar blindness that comes with being one of the one percent. He was born on third base and thought he had hit a triple. So when he was reelected by the narrowest of margins, he thought he could do anything he wanted because–well, because he was George Bush!

So in his inaugural address, while all Washington looked on, he told the nation he was going to pass an amendment outlawing gay marriage. He didn’t realize there would be a mayor in the audience from a small town out west–San Francisco–where most folk didn’t agree with him. He also didn’t realize that most Americans root for the underdogs and hate the bullies.

The Democratic mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, was so incensed by comments made by Bush sympathizers about “homosexuals” and the “gay agenda”, that he decided to do whatever he could to counteract Bush’s hateful intent. Newsom determined to start performing gay marriages right away. So Bush started the ball rolling.

The bullies didn’t give up without a fight. They were certain if they got the issue into the Supreme Court, the conservative justices there would put a stop to gay marriage forever. The Mormon and Catholic Churches spent millions of dollars of their members’ money to pass an anti-gay initiative in California, on the fake assumption that, somehow, if gays were allowed equal rights, that would be bad for everyone else. The initiative passed. Bigots rejoiced.

But then something strange happened. The courts sided with the oppressed minority. Federal judges decided that the Fourteenth Amendment, which guaranteed “equal protection of the laws”, meant exactly what it said. This decision was astonishing to the rabid right because they were sure they had everything going their way.

Public opinion began to swing away from the right-wing bigots as well. The American love for the underdog came out in full force. President Obama, who MotherJones.com said had actually supported gay marriage in private in 1996, finally gave it his public support. A new pope was elected, Francis, who said he would shift emphasis away from “abortion, gay marriage, and birth control” toward poverty and global warming–I presume this means the Catholic church won’t be supporting any more anti-LGBTQ referendums!

On Friday, the Supreme Court finally agreed that the Fourteenth Amendment is the law of the land. This was 147 years after it became the law of the land and 146 years since people started to ignore it. But this amazing victory for LGBTQ rights would not have been possible without the short-sightedness and partisanship of Republican President Bush and the courage and heroism of Democratic Mayor Gavin Newsom.

ROUGH TIMES FOR WHACKO WINGERS EH??

Lindsey Graham: GOP Needs To Accept Marriage Equality Ruling (VIDEO)
June 28, 2015

Lindsey Graham says Republicans need to accept the Supreme Court marriage equality ruling and dump calls for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

As conservative Republicans like Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum continue whining about same-sex marriage being legal in all 50 states, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham appeared on Meet The Press on Sunday to tell them to get over it and move on.

During the interview with Chuck Todd, Graham said that the time has come for the GOP to accept the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. However, Graham also suggested the focus should shift to protecting the ability of conservative “Christians” to discriminate against gay people.

Furthermore, Graham called upon Republicans to abandon a 2012 GOP platform plank supporting a constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage by defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Graham said such a platform plank should not be carried over to 2016 because it would only “hurt” the party.

“What I want to do is protect the religious liberties of those who believe that opposing same sex marriage as part of their faith. So no I would not engage in the Constitutional amendment process as a party going into 2016. Accept the Court’s ruling. Fight for the religious liberties of every American.”

NH Republicans Kick Fox News In The Nuts

Fox News recently announced that the cable network was going to determine the 10 participants that would be allowed to participate in the first televised Republican debate. At present, there are 20 declared candidates, but the field is expected to expand to at least 24. The Fox announcement set off a firestorm in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire prides itself for being first in the country and the threat of ceding the decision to who gets to run and whose voice won’t be heard didn’t sit well with New Hampshire Republicans. A group of 56 prominent Republicans, sent a letter to Roger Ailes and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus urging Fox to provide a platform in which all candidates would be heard.

Then, the New Hampshire Union Leader, a respected news publication, announced that it will sponsor a presidential candidates forum on August 6, which just happens to be the night of the scheduled Fox debate. It will include all candidates and will be televised nationally on C-Span and will also be on radio.

Union Leader publisher Joseph W. McQuaid said,

What Fox is attempting to do, and is actually bragging about doing, is a real threat to the first-in-the-nation primary. Fox boasts that it will ‘winnow’ the field of candidates before New Hampshire gets to do so. That isn’t just bad for New Hampshire; it’s bad for the presidential selection process by limiting the field to only the best-known few with the biggest bankrolls. Why the RNC and, especially its New Hampshire representative Steve Duprey, would defend this and be a party to it is baffling.

All I have to say to that is Amen Brother!

This is heartening. This is telling me that the spirit of this country will not be overrun by a bunch of corporatists. Maybe we differ on how things should be done, but in the end, the people of this country have always been able to find a middle ground. The one thing we all agree on is that we are Americans and as such, we get to make our own decisions. Not Fox News. Not the RNC. Not anybody but us. So when there is a presidential election, it is the voters who get to decide who will be the person to carry the banner for their respective party. Not a cable news network.

You go, New Hampshire! Live Free Or Die!
