Hi Mary, Here's the link to the IDC report. Click on "Strong outlook for Q4....." and go to the bottom of that page for the charts.
Note it states "Data for all vendors are reported for calendar periods." I think IDC is very accurate. I took the data directly from their report.
I think 40 mil units 2H is widely accepted, and we know that Compaq is the dominant supplier. Any way, these are the numbers I've based my opinions on. Regards, Gene

Mary, Went to Compaq's site and found the following.
Unit growth Q3'96/Q3'97 was 56%.
This agrees closely with the IDC report of 1810K units Q3'96, 2770K units Q3'97. (53%). Didn't find anything on actual units at this site. Can you give me a link?
