I think the president likes it so by default any GOP member will be against it along with any Democrats that believe supporting Obama will hurt their chances in the next election. Sadly, most of the scum in office don't do their jobs to help society, they do what it takes to stay on the gravy train and get reelected. Presidents usually only have the last two years of a second term to do what they think will help the country the most. Thus you have Obama doing something NOW you would think the GOP would be happy about.
