We should not forget that after attacks from West, Murphy brought attention to West's Army career. West abruptly retired after a reprimand for firing a gun near the head of an Iraqi detainee. Think about for a moment. For some, such an action is sexually stimulating - for the majority of us, revolting. The military code is worthless to raging eye-for-eye predators, just as it is to enemy terrorists. West actions serve real enemies recruiting for middle east jihad, cost American soldiers lives, and promotes perpetual war. He is an extremist nut. Nothing to do with conventional left or right politics. That's why West lost.
