Probably the most confused point on economics in the mind of almost every liberal.

It is the act of production which creates economic growth, not the act of consumption. It is a really big distinction, as it explains why Keynesian economics doesn't work. And why fiscal stimulus doesn't work unless it is directed at capital investment.

If you get innovation and production then growth and consumption follow.

You are arguing with their religion. To them, what drives an economy is innovation and investment. Consumers are irrelevant, despite the fact that over 70% of our economy is driven by consumers. But consumers are a faceless hoard, they would rather worship at the feet of a few.

You will find they tend to ascribe to the Great Man theory of history. Despite it being out of favor for more than a century.

It's when there are customers and sales that people are hired and paid competitively (or not.)
Who creates the jobs for start-up companies? Obama?
