Manufacturing Woes Common at Experienced Companies.

I found the following blurb interesting because is shows even companies with experienced mgmt and production have problems ramping up new factories.

From January's AOPA Pilot Magazine p28:

*Cessna had hoped to produce 1,000 aircraft in 1997, but the realities of starting a new plant caught up with overly optimistic projections, and only 500 will be built. Production was slowed by a variety of problems. It is likely that the projection of 2,000 aircraft for 1998 will be lowered while problems with increasing production are solved. *....

Cessna has produced aircraft for many years, including the piston aircraft which they are reintroducing to the market. So...perhaps it really is difficult to bring new factories online.
