Ken, I commented on that, but I have to correct you too. It wasn't that Compaq was taking out IE the program. It was the sacred desktop icon, the removal of which shattered and fragmented the integrity and uniformity of the Windows Experience! But, that's all water under the bridge, the OEMs are continually expressing their love of and devotion to Microsoft now, Compaq first and foremost. Man, Microsoft has really turned me into a purveyor of purple prose. Good thing the holidays are coming up, got to take off and recharge for Jan. 13.

Cheers, Dan.

I don't think there's anything "interesting about it." But of course, this is SI, and everything is a conspiracy (side note: and this especially applies to the investment-oriented threads)...

1) The IE4 problem with Presarios came well before the DOJ stuff heated up.

2) Compaq (and IBM) have a lot of proprietary crap in their machines, in case you didn't know.

3) WHY, pray tell, would Microsoft want to ship software that doesn't work on many machines? Does anyone see anything advantageous to Microsoft in doing this? I don't. All I see is a bunch of users getting mad at Microsoft IE4 and then going back to Netscape for their browsing needs.
