"...ontological difference between a fetus and a baby"

That is a meaningless question. I think we can agree that the deformed and dying fetus and the baby both exist. But a lot of things exist. Existence is necessary for personhood but mere existence is not sufficient for personhood. You're just weaseling. The fetus is biologically connected to the mother's biology. Thus, it is a part of her and completely dependent upon her. It has no say in whether or not she jumps off a bridge or any other thing. Nor does it have any interest--which is a prerequisite for personal rights. For a period of time after birth, the (now human) child still has no interest, and so exists as the property and under the aegis of the parental rights.

Once something begins to matter to a biological human we must grant it the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Prior to it having interest (and subsequent to the loss of interest) we may grant him or her rights.

As you well know, after the fetus becomes viable, under U.S. law, the state may prohibit all abortions except those necessary to preserve the health or life of the mother. So even though the woman has at all times (IMO) the right to abort...nevertheless she may be legally constrained from having the procedure.

"You just want to be able to kill people legally. Their blood may not be literally on your hands but your complicity in their deaths means that your shame and guilt are just as real as if it were."

You're a liar. I do not want to kill people legally. Nor am I complicit in the death of anyone, anywhere, anyplace, or any time.

Nor do I have any shame or guilt for any acts not committed by me. You're talking stupid once again.

There is no Ontological difference between a fetus and a baby......One could use the term 'baby' after end of 2nd trimester perhaps when a fetus can potentially exist outside the womb. There's no self awareness, personhood & whatever hysterical labels until very end of trimester, no mental life at all.

The cerebral cortex, which is responsible for most of what we think of as mental life, conscious experience, voluntary actions, thinking, remembering, and feeling, has only begun to function around the time gestation comes to an end. Before this you have only brainstem guided basic vital functions, reflex movements, heart beat, swallowing & breathing reflex.

It would asking too much for you to even attempt to understand real brain & central nervous system developemental stages of the fetus, there's absolutely no mental activity till almost the very last stage of pregnancy. (The cerebral cortex isn't even wired yet, no mental activity, like you )

A fetus is not an 'unborn child' as so many dishonest prolife websites like to term them. At those earlier stages there are no sensations or feelings of pain among many of their other distorted promotions. Before 2nd trimester, no mental activity remember? No cerebral cortex. ( as if you could)

Meanwhile we debate the immigration issue again, Catholic Mexican & South American migrants coming here en masse, but being a hysterical ninny like brumar, you can't see the irony. But you've been going to Church for how many years n prolly cannot remember last week's sermon.
