From tens of thousands of miles up, along with a few landings on the surface, you can create accurate models of Mars?

For one. it is not 10s of thousands of miles above the surface. It is an elliptical orbit from 3900 miles to 93 miles above the surface. Amongst other things, it is studying atmospheric loss and the mechanisms by which it occurs. What better place to study it than where it is occurring? Or are you moving the goal posts and discussing something else?

Since you obviously are commenting about something you know nothing about, here.
