Like I told Metta World Peace, there are currently two documented ways to create a livable planetary ecosystem. One way is to let evolution take its course. Unfortunately that takes hundreds of millions of years, and the outcome is far from certain. The other way is to let God (or someone who possesses the wisdom and the power of God) do it. Like I said, he did it in six days and got to rest on Sunday. I know you seemed to be impressed with the six days and resting on Sunday bit. However, for me, the more impressive process..............the one that takes sheer genius and extraordinary talent is the evolutionary one. The detail......the imagination.........the fascinating results.......that's what blows my mind. I will give you one very small example. I planted some roses on the side of my house. I planted one too close to the edge of the rose bed. One of the canes extended out over the edge of the bed and periodically the gardener or a kid or an animal would walk by and break off the cane. After the third year of this happening, the cane sticking over the edge of bed suddenly shriveled up and new canes came out from its sides and away from the edge. No cane has been broken since then............coincidence. I don't think so. I can't remember the evolutionary terms I learned.......but I think its an example of adaptation. Here you have this non sentient organism making decisions that benefit the plant. To me that's extraordinary..........and it takes a mind of amazing powers to put such a plan into motion. On the other hand, I find the whole Christian six days and rest on Sunday explanation to be a bit trite and very unimaginative........and I know people are striving for the grandiose......but I think the evolutionary process is far more grandiose.Obviously there is lively debate on which method was used to create Earth, but nevertheless, both ways are unviable for terraforming Mars. Hence we need to devise a method that fits somewhere in between. Specifically, we need to come up with methods that will shortcut the evolutionary process without totally screwing it up. I asked CJ and I will ask you........what do you think are the benefits of terraforming Mars?
