ERICSSON DIVESTS DESIGN DEPARTMENT TO FLEXTRONICS Ericsson and Flextronics International Sweden AB, have signed an agreement for Flextronics to take over the Engineering Support team from Ericsson business unit Enterprise Networks' design department. The unit includes 27 people engaged in construction of printed circuit boards and components in Nacka Strand, Stockholm. Enterprise Networks is part of Ericsson business area Infocom Systems and the agreement is in line with Infocom Systems' efforts to concentrate on core business. Flextronics' ultimate goal with the acquisitions is to establish a complete Product Introduction Center specializing in project management, prototyping, PCB layout CAD/CAM, test development, process development, component engineering, electronic design and mechanics design. In total, the Center will involve 40 people in Stockholm and 40 people in Karlskrona. "This is an important step outsourcing strategy of new product introduction services, says Hans Ahlinder, Director of Sourcing, Ericsson business area Infocom Systems. "We are already using Flextronics successfully in manufacturing of our products and we foresee improved efficiency and shorter lead times of these critical hardware engineering support activities by using Flextronics experience and competence as a world class manufacturing company."
