Thanks for the comments.

My guess is here in CA VW will have to buy back the cars as they probably won't get decent performance running to pass smog testing here. I remember modifying a 79 Fiat X1/9 for "off road" use. You could get nearly double the HP by removing the pump that fed NO from the exhaust back into the engine for more complete burning after adding dual Weber carbs, a high lift cam and dual headers. Electronics (fuel injection) does much of this much more efficiently while allowing for cleaner emissions. My GUESS is the TDI cars will seem undrivable and unsafe to owners who have the profiles changed back to not pollute so they'll want full refunds for the cars. Plus the States should get compensation for the 40x pollution. I should get compensation for having to breath it also....
It certainly shows that the EPA is a bloated bureaucracy that makes laws and does little to follow up on - but we know that about government in general.
Last night on Bill Maher's show, he blamed insufficient funding for the EPA..... figures. I read they don't actually test the cars but tell the manufactures what they have to do and rely on their data.... The EPA is a bunch of paper pushers who may have rubber stamped VW data. It is no wonder so many don't trust the latest Iran deal.
