I don't know if they will do that. Once again, they will be inviting serious trouble. The government is already "not happy" with Microsoft's attitude and they don't need a lot of excuse to pull the trigger. Basically, I think that Gates has the attitude that he and his company are larger and better than the government. In other words, his ego has overtaken his logic. A deadly combination. Regardless of how large you are, the government is larger, faceless, and, in the end, will outlast you. It's not like Microsoft has a tons of allies in the ranks of the common Joe. So politically, there's not a lot to lose by hammering the company, in fact I think that they will be broken up. It's a great investment if this looks like it will happen, but until than, Microsoft will not do something as stupid as saying " We do not support Java." At least I don't think their that stupid.

IMHO if Microsoft announces that people using Microsoft operating systems are risking having to throw away standards-based development work, OS/2, UNIX, SOLARIS, etc. will be replacing windows at a lot of places. Microsoft may also find themselves without a JAVA license. Scott

Big deal. Everyone knows that if you don't use 100% pure Java, you
are on your own. You cannot expect to interoperate with other
applications or get support for your own. There's also a lawsuit
pending in court over Microsoft's implementation. If Microsoft gets
whacked in court, they're at the mercy of SUN as far as Java is
concerned. The question is IF?

Hello John.

Yes this is the simple boilded down version of the question of the future of SUN/Microsoft/Java etc. But IMHO it will be worse for MSFT than SUNW for them to try to stop/splinter/neuter JAVA at this point. It's simply too late.

John:

You state:

NON-MSFT-JAVA-COMPATIBLE application is not operable in win9x?

hmmm... interesting! I hope this wont be the case because as a MSFT share holder I definitly do not wish to see my shares to go down if Microsoft comes out and says an absolutely stupid statement such as above! It would be similar for GM to come out and state that we will sell our cars only to those who are willing and promise not to go over 40 miles an hour! And I wonder how would their sales do? (and I am not just talking in the US, but all over the world)?!!!!!!
